UOB Smart Bankers Internship Programme

This 10-week programme affords you a unique opportunity to experience a career in banking. We provide you with various training opportunities that accelerate your learning from classroom to boardroom. Outstanding interns may stand a chance to earn a fast pass to join our award-winning Management Associate programme.

What we look for in a UOB Intern:

  • An undergraduate from a local or overseas university currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and/or Bahasa Malaysia
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Have a keen interest in banking and its related businesses

There are three intakes for UOB Smart Bankers Internship Programme each year – March, July and September.
Applications must be submitted two (2) months prior to the commencement of the selected internship period.

Learning and Development

You will start with a corporate induction which will provide you with an overview of the various businesses within UOB, insights into present-day industry challenges, as well as the Bank’s expectations of graduate hires.

In addition, you will participate in market-leading training to develop your technical and soft skills, including personal branding and effectiveness.

Hands-on experience

We believe the best way for you to learn is through on-the-job learning and experience. You will also build your professional network through unparalleled access to senior leaders and colleagues.

Mentorship and Development
Mentorship and Development

You will receive mentorship and guidance from experienced leaders throughout your internship. Outstanding interns will stand a chance to gain fast-tracked access to our Management Associate programme.

UOB Management Associate Programme

Designed to nurture our next generation of UOB leaders, this programme welcomes talent with a drive for excellence, an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong sense of learning agility.

You will undergo an accelerated induction to the banking industry over 18 months. You will learn about the different aspects of banking from retail and corporate, to support functions.

What we look for in a UOB Management Associate:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
  • No more than two years of work experience
  • An impressive track record in leadership
  • Fluency in English and preferably a second language

Application for UOB Management Associate Programme commences in October to March.

Accelerated Growth
Accelerated Growth

You will take on significant responsibilities right from the start, and resolve real-life challenges along the way. In short, your performance will contribute to our success.

With structured classroom training and an accelerated, robust curriculum, you will build core competencies and technical skills. Job rotations cover customer engagement, plus governance and control. You will also undertake a corporate project with a team to develop bank-wide initiatives.

There are many invaluable opportunities for regional exposure, where you get to meet fellow Management Associates and gain insights from the UOB leadership team.

These include regional rotation for high-performing Management Associates and participation in cross-border and cross-functional regional projects.

Mentoring and Coaching

You will receive strong support and guidance, with an assigned Programme Manager, a Senior Manager who will be your mentor and coach, as well as a senior UOB Management Associate buddy.

This support system lets you seek informal feedback on your professional and personal development, and prepares you for the successful completion of the programme.

We undertake a comprehensive, rigorous selection and assessment process to identify the best candidates for the UOB Management Associate Programme. This comprises ability tests, psychometric assessments and interviews.

Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Programme

This intensive 3+9 months graduate training programme is an industry-driven initiative managed by the Asian Banking School (ABS) in collaboration with BNM, aimed at bridging the needs of the banking industry with graduating talents.

What we look for in a FSTEP trainee:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
  • No more than 2 years of work experience
  • Active involvement in co-curricular activities
  • Good communication skills

There are two intakes for Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Programme each year, in April and September. Applications commence in February - March and July - August respectively.

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
  • No more than 1 year of work experience
  • Passion for the wealth management industry
  • An independent, self-motivated and highly sales and service-oriented individual
