COVID-19 Relief Assistance Programme after 30 Sep 2020

We stand right by you and will continue to ensure you have the support you need to help you through these uncertain times.

Recognising that some of our customers continue to face challenges during this challenging time, we are committed to assisting individuals and businesses adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, to support economic recovery and safeguard the livelihood of Malaysians.

As part of the measures announced during the recent Budget 2021 presentation, we will be expanding our repayment/payment assistance to all customers in the B40 group who have registered under the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) or Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) and eligible Microenterprises with loan/financing facilities amounting up to RM150,000, which was approved before 1 October 2020.

In addition, individuals under the M40 group who registered for the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) could also benefit from our current targeted assistance.

We were notified by the health authorities today that an employee at our Kota Kinabalu branch who had been working from home since 14 November 2020 had tested positive for COVID-19. He is currently under medical care and we are offering assistance to our colleague and his family as he focuses on his recovery.

As a precautionary measure, the branch is currently conducting a deep-cleaning of the premise and will resume operations on Monday, 23 November 2020. The Branch’s self-service banking facility will also be undergoing a deep cleaning and will resume operations tomorrow, Sunday, 22 November 2020.

We are conducting close contact tracing with the confirmed case and are working closely with the health authorities on any further follow-up measures that may be required.

UOB Malaysia was informed by the health authorities that a non-customer facing employee at Menara UOB, Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is now under medical care and we are assisting her and her family with all the support they may need through to her recovery.

Our employee was last in her office at Menara UOB on 21 October 2020 and was working from home thereafter. She had sought medical attention at her local clinic upon showing flu-like symptoms before testing positive for the virus. All those who have come into close contact with the employee will be tested for the virus and are being asked to self-quarantine. We are working closely with the health authority on any additional follow-up measures that may be required.

We wish to reassure our customers, colleagues and the community that we are completing a thorough cleansing of all affected floors and common areas of Menara UOB in accordance with health authority’s guidelines. We would also like to reiterate that this incident has not disrupted our services given the well-established business continuity plan the Bank has in place.

UOB Malaysia has temporarily closed its Kepong branch in Kuala Lumpur, including access to its self-service banking machines1 following notification from the health authorities that an employee had tested positive for COVID-19. The branch will remain closed as we conduct a deep-clean of the premises, and will be opened when we receive the necessary clearance from the health authorities.

 

The employee, who is a mortgage specialist based at the branch, had visited Lahad Datu and Semporna, Sabah between 10 to 13 September 2020.  We are offering assistance to our colleague and his family as he focuses on his recovery.

 

We have conducted contact tracing and all colleagues and customers who came into close contact with the confirmed case will be contacted by the end of the day. They are being asked to self-quarantine for 14 days while they monitor their health and await further instructions from the authorities. We are working closely with the health authorities on any further follow-up measures that may be required.

The eight branches that will be closed from 20 April until the end of the movement control order (MCO) period include:

In caring for the health and safety of our visitors, customers and our employees, UOB Malaysia’s self-serving banking services will be available to customers between 7.00am to 7.00pm (subject to the operating hours imposed by local state authorities) for the duration of the Movement Control Order (MCO). Self-service banking facilities include ATMs, Cash, Cheque and Coin Deposit Machines.

UOB Malaysia will absorb the fees charged to customers when they use another bank’s automated teller machines (ATMs) to withdraw cash from their UOB bank account*. This is part of the Bank’s further initiative to encourage its customers to stay at home or to move only within areas close to their homes during the government’s Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

*Note:
  • All MEPS ATM withdrawal fee incurred from 1 April 2020 until the end of Movement Control Order period will be waived immediately.
  • All MEPS ATM withdrawal fee that is incurred from 18 March to 31 March 2020 will be reimbursed within 60 days after Movement Control Order period.

 

We will also be revising our regular branch opening hours to between 10.00am to 3.00pm during this period. The change to our operating hours across our branches and our self-service banking services is to ensure social distancing and the safety of our people and our customers.  We will also be adopting additional preventive measures across our branches, including:

  1. Limiting the number of customers inside our banking hall to a maximum of 10 customers.

  2. Customers are advised to keep a distance of 1 meter when performing transactions at the self-service banking machines.

  3. Customers are also advised to keep a distance while waiting to be served.


We will continue to carry out temperature screening across all our branches and ask visitors to complete online health declaration forms via QR code to enable contact tracing if the need arises. Masks have been provided to all our customer-facing colleagues. We have also increased the frequency of cleaning and sanitisation across our branches and premises. Hand sanitisers are in place for customers to use.

We urge our customers to consider the convenience of using UOB Personal Internet Banking, UOB Business Internet Banking Plus and the UOB Mighty app instead of making physical visits to our branches. Customers are also  advised to schedule an appointment with their UOB Relationship Manager before visiting the branch.

Safeguarding the health and safety of our customers and colleagues remains our top priority. We remain vigilant and assure our customers that we are taking every precaution to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
