UOB Malaysia confirms one COVID-19 case at Menara UOB

Kuala Lumpur, 1 November 2020 – United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) was informed by the health authorities yesterday that a non-customer facing employee at Menara UOB, Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is now under medical care and we are assisting her and her family with all the support they may need through to her recovery.

Our employee was last in her office at Menara UOB on 21 October 2020 and was working from home thereafter. She had sought medical attention at her local clinic upon showing flu-like symptoms before testing positive for the virus.

As part of our contact tracing process, we have spoken to all those who came into close contact with our colleague. They will be tested for the virus and are being asked to self-quarantine while they monitor their health and await further instructions from the authorities. We are working closely with the health authority on any additional follow-up measures that may be required.

We wish to reassure our customers, colleagues and the community that we are completing a thorough cleansing of all affected floors and common areas of Menara UOB in accordance with health authority’s guidelines.

At all our office buildings and branches, we continue to conduct temperature screening. We have placed hand sanitisers in our branches and on all floors of our buildings. We have also been conducting more frequent cleaning and sanitisation at these premises since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak. Our customer-facing colleagues all wear face masks and adhere to strict standard operating procedures as an extra precaution.

We wish to also reassure our customers that this incident has not disrupted our services given the well-established business continuity plan the Bank has in place.

Additionally, the nine UOB Malaysia branches, which were temporarily closed from 21 October 2020 due to the targeted Conditional Movement Control Order, will resume operations on 2 November 2020 with reduced operating hours. These branches are:

• Medan Pasar
• Kepong
Selangor • Kota Damansara

We will continue to do all that we can to help protect the well-being of our colleagues, customers and the community in these trying times.
