UOB Malaysia wins regional and national ESG awards for prioritising energy efficiency and employee well-being at its HQ



KUALA LUMPUR, 3 December 2024 – UOB Malaysia today announced that its corporate headquarters, UOB Plaza 1 Kuala Lumpur (UOB Plaza 1 KL), has been awarded top honours for energy efficiency. The building was the winner in the Energy Efficient Building categories at the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards 2024 and the National Energy Awards 2024.

 

The ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards, presented by the ASEAN Centre for Energy acknowledges private sector’s excellence in advancing energy efficiency and conservation across the region. Meanwhile, the National Energy Awards spearheaded by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change recognise industry leaders for their commitment to implementing sustainable energy practices within Malaysia.

 

UOB Malaysia’s commitment to workplace well-being at UOB Plaza 1 KL also won the Bank the Workplace Wellness Programme Award at the ESGBusiness Awards 2024 for the second consecutive year.

Completed in September 2022, the 37-storey UOB Plaza 1 KL is the first bank headquarters in Malaysia to achieve platinum ratings from both Malaysia’s GreenRE1 and Singapore’s BCA Green Mark. The building’s award-winning features include sustainable architecture, efficient energy, water and waste management systems, and a strong focus on employee well-being. Key eco-friendly installations, such as energy-efficient cooling and lighting systems, water-efficient fixtures, and a rainwater harvesting system, contribute significantly to reducing its carbon footprint.
